Bridge

A weird bit of reality.

I had one of those “Eureka!” moments last Saturday. Taking a quick glimpse through my gallery, it’s easy to notice one thing I very rarely use, a background. I was camping over on the coast and happened to bring the camera. I was watching my nieces play on this very bridge when - Brain flash! An idea, you know, a headache with pictures.

I’ve seen drawings where a figure is superimposed over a random background, but never one where the figure is actually “fit” into the background.

For some details on how I did this thing: [link]

Hope you like!

Heh.. Bender's in the background looking like he's going, " I'm gonna push one of you off".

Oh thanks! This was the first time I'd tried anything like this. It's kind of klunky, but does seem to work fairly well.

Very interesting! They fit the scene well and I love how you've drawn Fry, he looks really cute! :aww:

Thanks! Having everybody fit the scene was a bit of a challenge.

Funny, most people seem to like Fry. I had more fun getting Bender climbing the rocks.

You're welcome! Hehe, yes Bender looks great too! As does Leela, but I think maybe she could be improved a little (the hand is a little claw-like and her right foot should be a bit higher I think?) - Btw thanks for faving my cross stitch, much appreciated :)

Of the three, Fry seems to fit the scene best. He's perfectly posed. Must have been tough getting them right. :)

I don't think I've mentioned this before but I love the way you draw Leela's boots. They look similar but they're much more sleek and defined.

Getting them sized was the toughest part. The perspective made Bender just a little smaller.

Getting them colored and shaded even half way right was the toughest part. Fry is the chopiest colored of the three and he fits the best. Go figure...

Getting them... oh, well, okay enough toughest gags!

Thanks for thinking about the boots. I did leave off the green stripes.

Yep, I think Fry lost his can of Slurm, and I hope Bender has suction cups on his foot cups.

nicely mixed, specially fry. perhaps you can add them separate and fix the contrast a little on leela and bender so they can appear more similar to the photo tones, but i like the full scene.

Cool! Posing and scaling everybody was tricky, Bender is a bit smaller.

Interesting comments on the tones, I'll see what I can do. The next one has some really strong sun light/shadows. That one I'll definately be aware of the tones.

Thanks!

Y'know, that's a sharp observation. I hadn't thought of that, but it does seem to apply here.

This is a really cool scene! I like the integration of your drawn style and the photographic background with a bit of editing to make them come together.

Thanks, I'm relieved to hear that.

One thing I didn't do was to put in a cast shadow. The lighting is not really pronounced so skipping a shadow or three wasn't a big deal.

You're welcome. And to be honest, I completely missed the lack of any sort of shadow.
