Description

Yep, it’s pretty obvious where I got the base for this one. That’s not all that very interesting.

What is interesting is why and how this drawing evolved.

I’m doing a double portrait for a DA buddy of mine and I wanted to do a simple generic head/face practice bit.

Originally I wanted a real accurate but simple pencil sketch of the face. So I measured everything, several times. No I don’t trace anything. That’d be cheating and doesn’t look all that good. Once I got into the drawing it just kept on going. Next thing I knew the entire figure was penciled in.

I can still hear it screaming for full color, not a pencil thing like I first wanted to do. I used markers, a lot of markers.  Working with markers is pretty traumatic. Once the ink hits the paper, that’s it. There is no back/erase button. Getting the colors to blend over large areas is tough. So there isn’t much blending at all.

Actual size is 12 x24 inches.
