In an Afternoon Reworked

Brace yourselves, I have a lot to say about this one.

The other “Afternoon” drawing  is color based and this version is black outline based.  There is a Godzilla sized difference between the two.

First off, I have a ton of trouble getting a nice finish with black markers.  Not even close.  It’s splotchy, shows streaks, super glossy, and just “Yuck!”.  Other colors I can get ‘em to work.  But why are black markers so sucky to work with?  I don’t know what’s going on.  I’m an idiot.

Also…

When I went back and added color, the color markers picked up the black ink and smeared it around.  As well as contaminated the tips.  This drawing is un-edited, un-cleaned which makes it way easy to see the resulting mess.  If there’s a weird streak where there shouldn’t be a weird streak, it’s because the color smeared.

But…

I do like the basic results.  It’s much more dramatic, and let’s just face it, much more interesting to look at.  Once I figure out how to correct the black color problem I’m quite sure I’ll do more of these kind of things.

Oh yeah, the title…

I did the layouts for my next couple of drawings and they became really complicated, also the last couple of drawings were super involved.  My little brain revolted and just said “Eeewe!”.  So I decided on a quick simple drawing and gave myself one afternoon to finish one drawing.  Instead I made things complicated again by doing two versions of the same thing. I’m an idiot.
